The Bedroom A Forgotten Room

When you go to redecorate your home you will normally completely forget about the bedroom. Most people like to change the decor in rooms that will have people who come over to visit. Since the bedroom is rarely seen it is many times forgot. But you need to consider a change to your bedroom.

And yet, the bedroom is where we spent a lot of time. It should be a calm in the center of a hectic world. It should be a place to retreat, to re-group, a refuge where we can relax and re-charge. But too often the bedroom is outmoded because it has not been redecorated on the same schedule as other parts of the home. The furnishings are outdated, there has been no planned theme or point of emphasis for the room, and it is not a source of pride. It just “is”.

How do you change that reality? Like everything else in the decorating world, what you do depends on your budget. If the budget is large and flexible, you throw everything in the room out and start from the bare walls. You create the room exactly as you want it to look. Unfortunately, most of us cannot afford that approach.

You don’t need a lot of money when redoing your bedroom so don’t feel like you may not have enough to redo that forgotten room. After figuring out the budget think of what kind of style you want for your new room. Of course most likely you will be changing the colors in the room. Remember that a great way to save some money is to only paint one wall in the room. This will mean less paint that you will need to buy and by all means make sure you paint it yourself.

How about redoing the headboard with a new fabric? Even if the old headboard is wood you can still put up some batting and fabric to make the bed look new and exciting.

Addition of plants or flowers to the room will create a brighter atmosphere in the room. You don’t need to have live flowers, but it would be a great idea because than you will be able to smell them each and every day.

A way that will change the room and not cost you much is by getting some area rugs. This will be easy to match whatever color you want to add and even if you want to get an odd shaped rug. You will add warmth and comfort to your room in one purchase.

Try moving the furniture around, it is amazing what kind of look you can create by just doing that. You can put the bed in a completely new location and in fact you may find that your new arrangement might give you even more room.

Changing not only the color of the bed sheets, but also the pattern will also be a great way to change the decor. You won’t need to spend a bunch of money and you can also get a throw pillow to add to the bed in different colors to add to the decor of the room.

If space is an issue and clutter is a continuing problem, consider investing in an under-the-bed storage unit. Some of these utilize casters to make the units easy to use. The units can be used to store off-season clothing or extra linens and bed coverings.

Do you have a wall that has nothing on it, maybe this should be the spot where you paint the wall, or add a nice rod to the wall and put up a pretty drape.

Though the bedroom is usually ignored when it comes to redecorating you should really try and change it around. Yes it won’t be seen by others but to make a nice sanctuary for yourself you can spend a little money.

Bedroom Design has never been so easy with these transitional rugs.
